In the News: Stephanie and Tom in STL Magazine

Courtship: Stephanie Hoffmann first met Tom Mauzy at a shower for Stephanie's best friend and Tom's brother, who recently had become engaged. They crossed paths again at the couple's wedding. After the reception, Tom sent Stephanie a text message: "I hope you get home safe." They continued to keep in touch, texting occasionally. After six months, they went out on their first date. "It took a while!" Stephanie says, laughing. “There was excitement behind it, but we also felt like we already knew each other.”

Proposal: In February 2016, Stephanie and Tom took a trip to Florida, where they stayed in a condo near Clearwater, Florida with Stephanie’s family, a yearly tradition. One day, Stephanie spent the day on the beach while Tom went fishing with Stephanie’s dad and brother. Later that evening, "we went for a walk on the beach, and we were talking about completely non-romantic stuff,” Stephanie says.

When the sun began to set, Stephanie suggested they head back. But when she turned to go, Tom called her name—and was down on one knee by the time she turned around. “I was completely shocked,” she says. “We went back to the condo, and my parents, my brother, and his girlfriend were down on the patio by the pool with drinks.”

Ceremony & Reception: Stephanie and Tom got married on November 5, 2016—a date that opened up in April of that year, making for a crazy few months of fast preparation. Both the ceremony and the reception were held at The Coronado, and the couple chose to personalize their wedding by using a celebrant rather than an officiate. A celebrant is someone who Stephanie says, “created a ceremony that was unique to our personalities and shared our love story.” The gold and cream colors used throughout the wedding mirrored the ornate décor of the venue. At the end of the reception, in honor of Stephanie’s Springer Spaniel, the couple had a table with bags of homemade doggie treats, so that guests could take a few home to their own pups.
